Medical Aid from Munich
Through excellent cooperation between Global Shapers Lviv Hub, Global Shapers Kyiv Hub, and Global Shapers Munich, we delivered critically important medicines to Ukraine worth more than €100,000.
The Munich Hub, through Julia Amtmann's connections to the Munich City Council and Karolina Inhinova's connections to the Ukrainian Ministry of Health, secured a €100,000 donation from the City Council for the Medical Aid to Ukraine project. Combined with €2,900 raised on GoFundMe, the funds were used to purchase anesthetics, synthetic skin, and essential medicines from a list provided by Deputy Minister of EU Integration Oleksii Iaremenko himself. Once delivered to government warehouses, the Ukrainian government distributed the supplies to hospitals where doctors could use them.
The initiative addressed a critical problem: hospitals in Ukraine were running out of essential surgical medicine and equipment. Working with a partner pharmacy, the Ukrainian Doctor's Association of Germany, and transportation companies, the team planned and executed deliveries of prescription-only medicine to Lviv, where five warehouses in and around the city received the products.
Key milestones included receiving and translating the required medicine list from English to German, holding meetings with major pharmaceutical companies, creating QR codes posted at strategic locations in Munich, collecting 26 GoFundMe donations totaling €4,325, engaging 20+ shapers from numerous hubs worldwide, and securing the €100,000 donation from the City of Munich. The last batch of medicine arrived in Ukraine on Easter — an Easter miracle.
This initiative was a collaboration between Global Shapers Munich Hub, Support Ukraine Now, the Ukrainian Government, and the City of Munich, demonstrating how local communities abroad can organize effective, targeted humanitarian aid through trusted networks and partnerships.
